Microphone permissions, one check at a time
Allowing a site is only one part of a working input. Use this checklist to separate browser permission, operating-system access, device selection and audio interruption.
Before pressing Allow
Open Mimic Party in a normal browser tab, close other recording apps and connect the microphone you actually want to use. The game explains why it needs a short recording before the browser permission prompt appears. If you are inside an embedded social-app browser, use its open-in-browser action or copy the link to Safari or Chrome; embedded browsers often restrict recording.
If permission is blocked
Open the address-bar site controls and set Microphone to Allow, then return to the visible game tab and choose Retry microphone. On iPhone or iPad, review the website setting in Safari and the device's microphone permission list. On Android, review both the browser site setting and the Android app permission. Labels change between versions, so follow the wording shown by your device.
If the meter stays flat
A granted permission can still point at a disconnected Bluetooth input, a muted operating-system device or another app holding the microphone. Reconnect the input, check the selected device and test once with the built-in microphone. Speak at a normal volume; shouting can clip the signal and create a less useful score.
If audio was interrupted
A call, app switch or headphone change may suspend the audio context. Return to the game tab and press a visible button to resume. If the old session cannot recover, close and reopen the tab. The game will ask for a new check only when it needs one, and an unsuccessful check does not create a scored run.
A route that needs no mic
The sound guessing game plays four clips and accepts answer buttons. It is a complete listening mode, not an error state, and can be used before or instead of voice imitation. When the microphone works again, open Just Play or a Daily Streak from the same browser.
Check one variable at a time
When a check fails, change one thing and try again: first the site permission, then the operating-system input, then the selected device. Testing all of them at once makes it hard to know what fixed the problem. A short spoken test is enough; you do not need to record a personal story or identify yourself.
What to include in a support request
If the checklist does not help, tell support the browser name and version, device type, whether the built-in or an external microphone was selected and the exact step that failed. Do not email a recording, a browser profile export or a room code that is still active. Those details are rarely needed to diagnose permission state.
A shared-device path
On a family or school device, ask the owner before changing a browser or operating-system permission. Finish the game, leave any room and remove an optional private replay before another person uses the device. The no-microphone quiz remains available when permission changes are not appropriate.
When to move to a normal browser
If an embedded browser hides the address-bar controls or suspends audio when you switch apps, copy the page link into Safari, Chrome or another current browser. The page should still work without installing an app. Returning to a normal tab gives the browser a clearer place to show permission and playback errors.
Desktop input checks
On a desktop, open the operating-system sound panel and confirm that the intended input is connected, unmuted and receiving a level. USB headsets can appear under a new name after reconnecting. Select the device in the browser or game control if one is offered, then run a short retry instead of leaving a recorder open in the background.
Mobile input checks
On a phone, remove a case or accessory that may cover the microphone opening, disconnect a Bluetooth headset you are not using and keep the screen awake while the check runs. A low-power mode or an incoming call can pause the audio context. Return to the tab and use the on-page retry after the interruption ends.
When a permission prompt never appears
A previous denial can prevent a new prompt. Use the site controls to reset the microphone decision, reload the page and wait for the game to explain the check before tapping Allow. If the browser is managed by a school or workplace policy, the policy may be the reason the control is unavailable; ask its administrator rather than repeatedly refreshing.
A clean retry
Close duplicate Mimic Party tabs, stop any other recorder, reload once and complete the visible check from start to finish. Multiple tabs can compete for the same input or leave an old audio context suspended. If the clean retry works, keep that tab open for the round and avoid switching devices until the result is submitted.
